Forest Whitaker Johnny Depp LAbyrinth Brad Furman

An appearance by Forest Whitaker is always something to enjoy, and the actor has several high-profile projects on the horizon including ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY and BLACK PANTHER. Whitaker has added yet another project to his upcoming slate as Deadline has reported that he's set to join the cast of LABYRINTH alongside Johnny Depp.

Adapted from Randall Sullivan‘s novel “LAbryinth: A Detective Investigates the Murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., the Implication of Death Row Records’ Suge Knight, and the Origins of the Los Angeles Police Scandal", the Brad Furman (THE INFILTRATOR) directed flick will see Forest Whitaker play "Jack" Jackson, a reporter desperate to save his reputation and career. He tracks down Russell Poole (Johnny Depp), a disgraced LAPD detective who is unable to solve his biggest case – the murders of The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur. Each man is determined to find the truth and each has a reason to seek redemption, which leds to the pair joining forces to finally put this case to rest. Spoiler alert, it's still unsolved, but the pair were able to expose corruption in the Los Angeles Police Department.

A synopsis of the novel via Amazon:

Acclaimed journalist Randall Sullivan follows Russell Poole, a highly decorated LAPD detective who in 1997 was called to investigate a controversial cop-on-cop shooting, eventually to discover that the officer killed was tied to Marion “Suge” Knight’s notorious gangsta rap label, Death Row Records. During his investigation, Poole came to realize that a growing cadre of black officers were allied not only with Death Row, but with the murderous Bloods street gang. And incredibly, Poole began to uncover evidence that at least some of these “gangsta cops” may have been involved in the murders of rap superstars Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur.

Forest Whitaker most recently appeared in Denis Villeneuve's ARRIVAL, which is currently playing in theaters, and you can read a glowing review by our own JimmyO right here!
