One of the most disturbing movies I've seen in recent memory, maybe one of the most disturbing movies I've ever seen, if I'm being completely honest, is writer/director Scott Schirmer's 2012 movie FOUND, which was based on a novel by Todd Rigney. I think watching that movie, about a young boy who finds a severed head in his brother's bedroom, might have permanently scarred me.
Schirmer is now seeking funds for his next directorial effort, one which sounds like it has the potential to be just as troubling as FOUND was. It's called THE BAD MAN, and it centers on
a young couple, Mary and PJ, who are kidnapped in their own home by a suicidal clown who plans to sell them as sex objects — a doll and a dog — to a cult of wealthy deviants. Before they can be sold, their spirits must be broken. Mary holds onto her humanity through trial after trial, desperately looking for a way to escape her torment and rescue PJ from his own madness. The film is about human dignity and the terrifying loss of it, as well as the valor of reclaiming it.
Schirmer will be making the film with his partners at Forbidden Films – producer Leya Taylor, Clockwerk Creature Company owner Arthur Cullipher, special effects artist Shane Beasley – and already has the leads cast: Cullipher will play The Clown, with Dan Nye as his mute sidekick Duct Tape Man and Ellie Church and Jason Crowe as their victims.
To help get the project off the ground, Forbidden Films is running a Kickstarter campaign with a $33,000 goal and perks that include pre-orders of THE BAD MAN on limited edition DVD and/or Blu-ray.
