Fox adapting the Danny Boyle/Leonardo DiCaprio film The Beach as a television series

JoBloJoBlo

Do you remember the year 2000? Before Leonardo DiCaprio became the truly respected actor he is today, before Danny Boyle won an Academy Award, before Tilda Swinton won an Academy Award, and before Robert Carlyle went mainstream on an ABC television series? Ah, memories.

Then you must remember THE BEACH. No? You don’t remember the movie about a young man traveling in Southeast Asia and discovering a hidden island commune? Hmm, and I thought it did so well at the box office.

It looks like it was forgettable enough for Fox to take the basic plot and reboot it as a television series. Andrew Miller, who runs CW’s THE SECRET CIRCLE with Kevin Williamson, will write the pilot that he describes as being “about a group of young people feeling disconnected and disenchanted from society who try to start over in paradise but discover that while creating the perfect world is hard, protecting it is even harder”.

So, you could essentially call it LORD OF THE FLIES for the MTV generation. Or maybe a voluntary version of LOST. Either way, having a group of sexy actors on an island trying to protect it from outside forces may outwardly look too much like other shows on television. But, depending on if they could collect the right cast, it may be worth tuning into.

What do you think of a television series based on THE BEACH?
