Fox has brought aboard Barry Sonnenfeld (MEN IN BLACK) to direct THE BOX, an action-adventure movie the studio is hoping it can be their next summer tentpole. Basically the film is a retelling of the old Pandora’s box taking place in modern times and having Pandora be a college student who also happens to be a guy. He has to team up with the real Pandora to cram all that stuff back in the box and feel free to come up with your own “box”-related double entendre. Fox is fast-tracking the film with hopes to get it ready for a summer 2008 release. Sonnenfeld took a step back from the big summer movies after MEN IN BLACK and has gone on to direct such “films” as BIG TROUBLE and RV. Evan Spiliotopoulos, whose writing credits include POOH’S HEFFALUMP MOVIE, is currently working on the script.
