With a two weeks into the new year, 20th Century Fox is doing a little reshuffling. Okay, a lot of reshuffling. But for our purposes here at Arrow In The Head, the amendments are far less substantial.
First up, Rupert Wyatt’s mega-spectacle RISE OF THE APES – starring James Franco, Freida Pinto and Andy Serkis – has been moved from June 24th to November 23rd. Word is the move was made to counterprogram the glut of Thanksgiving day family movies.
RISE OF THE APES is set in present day San Francisco, the origin story deals with the aftermath of man’s experiments with genetic engineering that lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy. A chimp named Caesar (Serkis) leads the uprising among the apes after having been raised by a father-and-son scientist duo.
Also getting the bump back treatment is Andrew Niccol’s sci-fi thriller NOW – starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried (below) – moving from September 30h to October 28th.
As you now, the film is set in the not-too-distant future, the aging gene has been switched off. To avoid overpopulation, time has become the currency and the way people pay for luxuries and necessities. The rich can live forever, while the rest try to negotiate for their immortality.
Storyline follows a rebel from the ghetto (Timberlake) who is falsely accused of murdering a wealthy man for his time, and goes on the run with a beautiful hostage (Seyfried).
So there you have it, Fox shaking things up. RISE OF THE APES will release November 23rd. NOW will release October 28th.
