Freevee to inherit 100 movies and TV shows from Amazon Prime Video this year

Freevee, Prime Video’s SVOD service, is adding 100 movies and TV shows to entice customers to sign up for Prime Video.

People say variety is the spice of life. If that’s true, Freevee is about to get even spicier. Word around the watercooler indicates original movies and TV shows from Amazon Prime Video are migrating to Freevee, Prime Video’s SVOD service. Titles included in the transfer include The Wheel of TimeReacherA League of Their OwnThe Grand TourLizzo’s Watch Out for the Big GrrrlsModern Love, and more! Up to 100 titles will join the service, expanding subscribers’ entertainment libraries like never before.

Freevee will be strategic about releasing specific titles, with many timed for upcoming seasons of popular shows. Freevee has yet to release an official timetable for the rollout, but many shows are already available. The Summer I Turned Pretty arrives on May 26, with shows including The Wheel of Time and Reacher arriving later in the year.

In addition to Freevee’s plan to stream more content, Freevee Originals EAST is rebranding to the Amazon Originals channel. Subscribers tuning in can enjoy Freevee originals like Jury Duty and Prime Video originals heading to the channel at a later date. Amazon believes making content available on Freevee will drive customers to the premium Prime Video platform, where new content for the shows moving to Freevee will debut.

The move to Freevee also gets content Amazon is already paying for in front of more eyeballs. More fans equal more subscribers, which means more money in Amazon’s pocket. With people cutting back on subscription services to soften the cost of living, Freevee allows people to sample content before buying a subscription to the premium platform.

Is Freevee the gateway drug to an Amazon Prime addiction? Freevee gives people a taste of its product before getting them hooked on the “harder” service. This taste test is how binge-watching starts, friends. Make sure you watch responsibly—everything in moderation.

Do you think Freevee will convince people to sign up for Amazon’s Prime Video? What Amazon shows and movies have you been curious about and hope come to Freevee? I can think of dozens of titles that could draw people into the premium service. It’s a slippery slope, ladies and gentlemen. Tread lightly, and enjoy!
