The One Where Friends Heads to Theaters to Celebrate its 25th Anniversary

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Friends, TV

Featuring six friends living together in New York City, Friends went on to become one of the biggest sitcoms of all-time, with legions of fans still devoted to the series and the lives of Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), Monica (Courteney Cox), Ross (David Schwimmer), Chandler (Matthew Perry), Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow), and Joey (Matt LeBlanc). It's not often that a TV series gets to be seen on the big-screen, but next month, Friends will be doing just that in order to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

Fathom Events will be bringing 12 iconic episodes of Friends to more than 1000 U.S. theaters spread across three nights: September 23rd, September 28th, and October 2nd. "We’re thrilled to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Friends, a TV show that continues to impact culture and attract new fans from across generations," said Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt. "Fans will have the opportunity to come together and look back on some of the most hilarious and emotional scenes from the acclaimed comedy — this time in theaters." Each night will feature four episodes which have been newly remastered in 4K from the original 35mm camera negative, and will also be accompanied by exclusive interviews and never-before-seen content. Here's the schedule:

  • September 23rd: Pilot –ReDo, The One With The Black Out, The One With The Birth, The One Where Ross Finds Out
  • September 28th: The One With The Prom Video, The One Where No One’s Ready, The One With The Morning After, The One With The Embryos
  • October 2nd: The One With Chandler In A Box, The One With Ross’s Wedding – Part 2, The One Where Everyone Finds Out, The One Where Ross Got High

"The cultural impact that Friends continues to have, 25 years after its premiere, is astounding, a true testament to the genius of Marta Kauffman, David Crane, Kevin Bright and the incredibly talented cast," Warner Bros. Television Group President & Chief Marketing Officer Lisa Gregorian added. "It is so amazing to know that the series is still bringing people of all ages together. We could not be more excited to deliver these digitally remastered episodes to theaters — for the first time ever! — so that together, in a shared experience, our loyal fans can enjoy some of their favorite Friends scenes in a new way." Although I've never seen a single episode of Friends (yes, I'm one of those people), I can imagine that this will likely be great news for Friends super-fans looking for a new way to experience their favourite series.
