A TV series adaptation of George R.R. Martin's novella Nightflyers will begin airing on Syfy in the U.S. this fall, while streaming service Netflix will be bringing the show to the rest of the world. Coinciding with the San Diego Comic-Con, Netflix has released a full trailer for the show, giving a glimpse at a vision of Martin's that is very different from the world he created for Game of Thrones.

Nightflyers follows

eight maverick scientists and a powerful telepath who embark on an expedition to the edge of our solar system aboard The Nightflyer – a ship with a small tightknit crew and a reclusive captain – in the hope of making contact with alien life. But when terrifying and violent events begin to take place they start to question each other – and surviving the journey proves harder than anyone thought.

The series stars Eoin Macken as Karl D’Branin, Sam Strike as Thale, Maya Eshet as Lommie, Angus Sampson as Rowan,  Jodie Turner-Smith as Melantha Jhirl, Gretchen Mol as Agatha, David Ajala as Roy Eris, and Brían F. O'Byrne as Auggie.

Nightflyers looks to be an interesting show. I don't know what's going on with that ship, but it looks like all hell breaks loose. There are lots of intense, strange scenarios, screaming, bloodshed, fire, and an unfortunate mixture of lazer beams and eyeballs.

Martin's novella was previously adapted into a 1987 feature film. I haven't read the novella or seen that movie, so I'm in the dark on this one.
