FX orders a second season of What We Do in the Shadows

The vampires of THE LOST BOYS may be having a rough time making the transition from the big screen to television, but things are going pretty well for the vampires who inhabit the world of the mockumentary WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS. With four episodes left to air in its ten episode first season on FX, the What We Do in the Shadows TV spin-off has already been renewed for a second season.

The WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS movie focused on a group of vampires in New Zealand. The series is set on Staten Island and follows 

three vampires who live together: Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), and Nandor (Kayvan Novak) — the former two are husband and wife. Also living with them is a fourth vampire named Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), who’s an “energy vampire.” Instead of blood, he sucks the energy out of his victims by boring them to death with mundane anecdotes and bad jokes. The office is his feeding ground, but his powers also work on his vampire roomies.

Harvey Guillen co-stars as the vampires' "sweet but fumbling" familiar Guillermo, and Beanie Feldstein, Doug Jones, Mark Proksch, and Jake McDorman are also in the cast.

What We Do in the Shadows is executive produced by Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement, Paul Simms, Scott Rudin, Eli Bush, and Garrett Basch.

Nick Grad, president of original programming at FX, had this to say about the season 2 order:

We also want to thank the rest of the creative team, including Scott Rudin, Garrett Basch and Eli Bush, and the incredible cast and crew for delivering such a fun and original series, and we look forward to working with them all on season two."

This FX show is the second television spin-off from WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS; the first was the six episode series Wellington Paranormal, which aired on New Zealand's TVNZ 2 and followed a pair of police officers who were introduced in the film.

The second season of What We Do in the Shadows will air on FX in 2020.
