One flick that I’ve been counting down the days for is Alexandre Aja’s PIRANHA remake, PIRANHA 3D! What’s not to look forward to? Spring break, plenty of skin, Elsabeth Shue, Richard Dreyfuss, Ving Rhames, Dina Meyer, killer piranha’s, massive bloodshed, Aja’s slick, sick, and totally awesome style, and (maybe best of all) it’s all going to be coming at ya in 3D! Nice!
This morning we were informed of a little casting news that made this flick that much more appealing. Jessica Szohr, best known as her role as Vanessa on the CW’s GOSSIP GIRL, has landed a role in PIRANHA 3D! Szohr will be playing Kelly, a hot young townie caught up in the excitement of co-eds who have descended upon the area for spring break.
Ah yes, the ridiculously hot townie who (I’m sure) nobody notices, and who (I’m sure) is made fun of by the visiting spring breakers. Hard to tell off the bat if she’ll end up as fish food or survive the massacre or not–it can go either way at this point. Hell–she could be one of the last few survivors!
As a recap, PIRANHA basically goes like this: Jaws… lots and lots of jaws. From acclaimed director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) comes the new action thriller PIRANHA 3D, in the latest eye-popping 3D technology. A new type of terror is about to be cut loose on beautiful Lake Victoria. After a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area’s new razor-toothed residents. But our heroine (Elisabeth Shue) is seriously outnumbered, and with only one chance to save the lake and her family from totally being devoured, she must risk everything to destroy the aquatic carnivores herself.
Hell yeah. And for those closet GOSSIP GIRL fans out there, this news is even awesomer (I’m one of them), as Szohr is probably one of the only non-bitches in the entire show, and the one most of us can actually relate to (unless your an NY socialite elite, like My Buddy Eric). Great, great news in my book.
Filming is set to begin later this in month in Lake Havasu, Arizona, and look out for PIRANHA 3D in theaters everywhere March 19, 2010.
