George A. Romero takes on zombies on your iPhone with App of the Dead

When you’re George A. Romero, and you’ve directed a buttload of …OF THE DEAD movies over a span of 45 years or so, what do you do to take the series to the next level? How about going a different direction than movies altogether, and into the technological phenomena known as… the iPhone? Sure. Why not.

Romero is partnering with Additive Interactive to develop a brand new APP OF THE DEAD for the iPhone and the iPod Touch in anticipation for the release of Romero’s latest …OF THE DEAD movie, SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD, which hits theaters nationwide May 28th.

So what does this APP OF THE DEAD do, anyhow? Here are some of the app’s fancy features:

  • Take photos of your friends or import them from the photo gallery, then add over 20 zombie features, including open wounds, weapons, and a gallery of deformed eyes and mouths.
  • A custom-built engine that allows players to “shoot” the zombies they’ve created, including spectacular blood-splatter.
  • Save your zombies to your iPhone, then upload to to Facebook, other social networking sites, or email them to friends.

Wow. That actually sounds pretty awesome. So you could upload a picture of your boss, turn said boss into a zombie, then shoot said zombie in the head, exploding their brains all over your phone. F*ck Yeah. Seriously, who wouldn’t want to do that? Then upload it to your FB page for all your friends, family, and random acquaintances to see? Does it get any better than this?

No date has been announced when APP OF THE DEAD will be available for download, other than “in the up coming weeks,” so it’s safe to say that by May 28, when SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD hits theaters nationwide, the app will be as good as yours through the Apple’s App Store.

You can even zombify your favorite stripper.
