Another day, another comic book optioned…
Deadline has it that Relativity Media is negotiating a deal that will bring AFTERBURN, Red 5’s sci-fi comic by Paul Ens and Scott Chitwood, to the big screen. Word is Antoine Fuqua (TRAINING DAY, BROOKLYN’S FINEST) is being courted to direct, Gerard Butler (300, LAW ABIDING CITIZEN) to star in the film. Not a bad pairing if I do say so myself!
Matt Johnson (INTO THE BLUE) wrote the AFTERBURN adaptation, though his script will likely be reworked by A MAN APART scribe Christian Gudegast. The story centers on a team of treasure hunters who mine valuables from a planet whose surface was scorched by a solar flare.
No telling if an official deal will get done, but we’ll bring you the news either way. Until we do, let us know your thoughts on a Fuqua/Butler pairing for this type of project? Can it work? Or does Fuqua’s street-gritty style of filmmaking not really lend to epic outer-space spectacles?
What do ya think?
