Get your first look at Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca in Star Trek: Discovery

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Now that Star Trek: Discovery has an official release date, we're finally beginning to find out more about CBS' upcoming series. Just yesterday Sonequa Martin-Green spilled a few details about her character as well as the nature of her relationship with Sarak (James Frain), father of Spock, and today we've got our first look at Jason Isaacs as Captain Gabriel Lorca courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. Check it out!

Looks as though he's in need of the Picard Maneuver. Described as a "steely Federation Starship Captain who’s considered a brilliant military tactician," Captain Lorca commands the U.S.S. Discovery, the starship on which Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) will, at some point, serve as First Officer. The above image also gives us the first blurry look at the bridge of the U.S.S. Discovery. Most of the promotional images as well as the first trailer have focused on Burnham's time aboard the U.S.S. Shenzou, the vessel commanded by Captain Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh).

Although I'm looking forward to the series quite a bit, I'll admit that the constant delays as well as losing Bryan Fuller (American Gods) have dampened my enthusiasm somewhat. However, co-showrunner Gretchen J. Berg has a good reason for the delays which will hopefully be made apparent once Star Trek: Discovery debuts and looks amazing. Fingers crossed.

You can’t cut corners or have 95 percent of what’s on screen be completely original and inspired and then have five percent something you bought at a store. It has to be cohesive — and it is. I’m so proud of what’s on screen, it’s so beautiful and it’s taking world-building to a whole new level.

Star Trek: Discovery will debut on CBS on September 24, 2017 before moving to CBS All Access.
