George Clooney, spooked by the less than stellar box office performance of MICHAEL CLAYTON, is apparently on the hunt for another OCEAN’S-sized franchise to appease studio heads when he takes them that silent film about the Holocaust he’s had simmering in his head for years. And it seems he thinks the upcoming G.I. JOE adaptation is just that franchise. He would, of course, be playing Duke, aka First Sergeant Conrad S. Hauser, the second-in-command of the G.I. Joe team and most popular character in the G.I. Joe universe. Clooney’s succumbed once before to the dark side when he couldn’t resist the allure of a certain nipple-suited crime fighter but will he now fall prey to a Stephen Sommers directed mindless blockbuster? With the Strike of Destruction inching closer and closer, just maybe.
