When he selected MMA fighter Gina Carano for his espionage movie HAYWIRE (formerly KNOCKOUT), filmmaker Steven Soderbergh obviously thought she might be the Next Big Thing.

It’s just taking a really long time before the rest of us get to decide for ourselves. The movie was initially planned for release earlier this year, but a distributor switch led to some delays… which knocked the flick back to next January.

In the meantime, here’s a good look at the lovely knuckle-sandwich dispenser (and former American Gladiator and videogame sniper) in action. The movie also features Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton, Michael Douglas and Michael Angarano, some of whom will very likely get severely beaten.

In HAYWIRE, “an electrifying tale of espionage and betrayal, a female covert ops specialist (Carano), who works in the deadly world of international operatives, strikes back after discovering she’s been double-crossed by someone close to her in the agency.”
