It’s a full moon out tonight and some changes are happening. Blu-ray.com has revealed that the high school horror flick Ginger Snaps from 2000 is about to get a new upgraded physical media release from Lionsgate Home Entertainment and Vestron Video. The film stars Emily Perkins, Katharine Isabelle, Kris Lemche, Mimi Rogers, Jesse Moss, Danielle Hampton, John Bourgeois, Peter Keleghan, Lindsay Leese, and Pak-Kong Ho. Lionsgate Limited will be bringing the film to 4K Blu-ray this summer on May 19.
The description reads,
“The cult favorite returns, in hair-raising 4K! Ginger Snaps is the story of death-fixated teenage sisters Ginger and Brigitte, who are attacked one night by a creature drawn to Ginger’s first menstrual period. Bitten by the creature, Ginger soon exhibits sudden aggression and bizarre transformations that convince Brigitte her sister is turning into a werewolf…and that Ginger’s embrace of her liberating new condition may be terminal.”
Special Features and Technical Specs:
Director John Fawcett revealed that he initially approached a pre-fame Scarlett Johansson to play a part in the film. He revealed, “We were prepping for Ginger Snaps the same year as the Columbine shooting. There was a lot of focus in the media on how movies made kids violent, and the idea of a bloody film set in a high school didn’t go down too well with casting directors in Canada. Some of them joined forces to boycott our film, and the National Post ran an article on it. All the schools we asked turned us down but, luckily, another film production had a set of just three tiny school hallways that we could shoot on. We sent Scarlett Johansson a script to see if she was interested in Brigitte, but her mother had read the National Post article and didn’t want her daughter involved.”
