We all know the masterful David Fincher is currently casting his adaptation of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, but did you ever stop to think what the director of the original Swedish film is up to? After-all, Niels Arden Oplev is now gathering some serious f*ckin’ heat.

According to the Bloody-D ghouls, it looks like Oplev has chosen to tackle THE KEEP, a script adapted from Jennifer Egan’s short novel. For those a bit weary, rest assured this is not a remake of Michael Mann’s exceptional 1983 flick of the same name. Quite a shock in a world of incessant remakes and unnecessary sequels.

So then, what’s Oplev’s version of THE KEEP all about? Check it…

With script adaptation by Ehren Kruger, THE KEEP is about two estranged cousins, who reunite to renovate a dilapidated Eastern European castle, with creepy consequences. The book combines gothic tropes with modern twists, leading one reviewer to call it a mash-up of Kafka, Calvino and Poe.

Kafka, Calvin and Poe? Sounds like the best type of nightmare imaginable!

In case you’re wondering, Ehren’s prior screenplay credits include THE RING, SKELETON KEY and THE BROTHERS GRIMM, so make of that what you will.

THE KEEP was picked by Rogue Pictures in 2008.

THE RING’S Naomi Watts!
