Girl with the Dragon Tattoo will be “very rated-R,” will Fincher direct trilogy?

With THE SOCIAL NETWORK snuggly in the can, David Fincher can now perhaps shift a modicum of focus on adapting THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO…both for Sony. And although the titular lead in Stieg Larsson’s novel has yet to be cast (Carey Mulligan and Mia Wasikowska seem interested however), Sony chief Amy Pascal has come forward with a few details regarding the property.

Aside from claiming to conduct a “global search” to find protagonist Lisbeth Salander, Pascal told The Wrap:

“We’re doing the book. That’s why we hired David Fincher . We’re going to really do this, in all their glory. Otherwise why do it? They’re very R-rated movies. It’s the shock of what’s really going on underneath the surface of society. If you don’t actually make good on that, you haven’t told the story.”

It’d be hard to see Fincher direct such a dark novel with anything less than a R-rated approach, so this may seem like the most blatant “no shit” news ever, but hey…that’s not all.

It seems Pascal is keen on retaining Fincher for all three films, but will he want to stay onboard to direct?

“Yeah, I would like it. I’m hoping he will. And he’s hoping he will,” added Pascal.

Due next Christmas, THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO picks up:
