Always the innovator, Steven Soderbergh picks up where he left off with his film BUBBLE–which was shot with a minimal budget and was released on cable, DVD and in theatres simultaneously–to bring us THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE, a revealing look at the world of prostitution starring real-life pornstar Sasha Grey. In it, Grey plays a hooker who encounters men and simulates the experience of having a girlfriend; meaning she sleeps in white cotton panties, asks them about their days, and cooks the odd dinner. Soderbergh’s film is clearly rooted in sci-fi, as real girlfriends tend to fart in their sleep, forbid getting loaded, and get grossed out when we have chunks of avocado stuck underneath our fingernails.
