Legendary Films looks to be living up to its name in the coming years. If you recall from this year's San Diego Comic Con, they pulled out the big guns with the reveal of King Kong in SKULL ISLAND, which looks to hit November 4, 2016. The following year will see the return of Jagers vrs. Kaiju with Guillermo del Toro's PACIFIC RIM 2 on April 7, 2017. Also announced was GODZILLA 2, with Gareth Edwards returning to the director's chair. Given that Edwards will be helming a Star Wars spinoff, it was unknown when we should be expecting GODZILLA 2 to hit screens . . . until now. Legendary Pictures just announced the release date, and we'll be seeing the King of the Monsters back where he belongs on June 8, 2018.
While I thought GODZILLA was just "okay", I can't deny that it's revving people up for more giant monsters in movies, thus paving the way for films such as PACIFIC RIM 2 and SKULL ISLAND. Can a GODZILLA VS KONG flick be too far off? I can't imagine it would be, and THAT has me excited! Edwards proved himself by establishing great tone and atmosphere in his films and I can't wait to see what he can deliver with the Star Wars license and a follow-up to GODZILLA.
GODZILLA 2 brings the mayhem on June 8, 2018.
