Back in June, producer of the new GODZILLA film Brian Rogers spoke at a 3D summit about the reboot’s 3D (read it HERE), and made damn sure we knew that we weren’t getting another CLASH OF THE TITANS. Now he’s chatting up the flick again – set to be produced by Legendary Pictures (THE DARK KNIGHT) – and explained to Zennie62.com a bit about where things stand in the big lizard’s world right now.
The video interview can be seen below, but here’s what’s within:
– The target year for release is 2012, but that’s not set in stone
– The reboot will pay homage to the original character, and have nothing to do with Roland Emmerich’s version
– He compares the reboot to what Legendary Pictures did with Batman – keep it traditional story-wise, but bring in new, modern elements (it will take place “now”)
– The model from a few months ago is unrelated to this particular project
– There will be other monsters for Godzilla to fight; he thinks one of the main problems with Emmerich’s version is that Godzilla was only fighting the military and not another beast, which would have kept to the original spirit of the character
– Godzilla will be a CG character, but the film is definitely live-action
Personally, the most exciting thing is hearing that Godzilla will be fighting another monster – can you f*cking imagine? That could end up being the stuff dreams are made of… provided they don’t screw it up completely. Rogers and Legendary seem to have the right idea, but we’ve all been burned before by talk like this. The real test will come when a screenwriter and director are announced.
