Gone Girl’s Kim Dickens joins AMC’s The Walking Dead spinoff series

Deadline is reporting AMC has found their female lead for the planned companion series to The Walking Dead (tentatively named Cobalt) in the form of GONE GIRL and Deadwood star Kim Dickens.

Set in Los Angeles, the spinoff series will follow a new group as they try to survive the same zombie apocalypse from the hit AMC series, with Cliff Curtis (SUNSHINE) playing a divorced teacher, who is in a relationship with a guidance counselor (Dickens). According to Deadline, Dickens' character "looks like the girl next door but has a darkness to her, a troubled past that will come back to haunt her," and has two kids from a previous marriage, played by Frank Dillane (HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE) and Alycia Debnam Carey (INTO THE STORM).

I haven't watched the past couple of seasons of The Walking Dead, but I am interested in seeing what creator Robert Kirkman does with Cobalt, since it won't be based on his comic book series.

The Walking Dead: Cobalt will premiere sometime in 2015 on AMC.
