Last Updated on July 30, 2021

We still don't know exactly when the animated series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is going to be available to watch on the HBO Max streaming service, only that the show is expected to premiere sometime in 2021. While we wait to hear release details, HBO Max has gone ahead and shared a bit of the show's concept art. The image can be seen below, and appears to show the beloved Mogwai known as Gizmo hanging out with his buddy Wing in 1920s China.

Written by Tze Chun, the first season of Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai will consist of ten episodes and has the following synopsis:

In the animated television adaptation, we travel back to 1920s Shanghai to reveal the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing (future shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 movie) met the young Mogwai called Gizmo. Along with a teenage street thief named Elle, Sam and Gizmo take a perilous journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering, and sometimes battling, colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. On their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.

Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is being produced by Amblin Television in association with Warner Bros. Animation. The executive producers are Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, and Sam Register. Dan Krall is a supervising producer, and Tze Chun is co-executive producer.

Joe Dante, director of GREMLINS (watch it HERE) and GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH (watch that one HERE) is a consultant on the series.
