GTA 6 trailer arrives next week

Rockstar Games will release the first trailer for the highly anticipated GTA 6 next Tuesday, although the release date is far off.

We’d like to think it’s hard to believe it has been an entire decade since Grand Theft Auto V hit shelves, but it’s not. It has been an excruciatingly long wait for GTA 6, and while no release date for the game itself has been announced, Rockstar Games has at least revealed that the first trailer will arrive on December 5th at 9 a.m. EST.

Rockstar first teased last month that a trailer for GTA 6 would arrive in time for the holiday season but was typically cagey in their information. With next Tuesday marking the official unveiling, fans of the series will no doubt be on five-star alert. While we don’t know just what the GTA 6 trailer will showcase, when the first glimpse at GTA V dropped, we were introduced to the new setting of Los Santos (from Mission Row to Mount Chiliad), part-time protagonist Michael De Santa and an elevated style of action and missions. Notably, however, no street date was attached.

Of course, details are extremely slim on GTA 6 and will remain so until next week. But even then, there will be enough speculation to fill Raton Canyon. Ahead of the trailer, we do at least know through leaks – courtesy of a hack – that the game will take place in Vice City (also teased in Rockstar’s image), the location of the fourth entry. There have also been reports that the primary protagonist will be a female, a far cry from Trevor Phillips. We can also reasonably expect a much larger map.

As for the release date of the game itself, we likely won’t know that for quite some time. As was the case with the fifth installment, the trailer dropped in November 2011 but Rockstar didn’t announce the release date until January 2013, with GTA V finally arriving in September. With that sort of timeline, that puts GTA 6 on shelves in 2025.

But Rockstar has been far from slacking when it comes to Grand Theft Auto content, remastering the “trilogy” of GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas. There have also been numerous expansions for GTA V, including the widely popular online feature, which let you complete 90% of a mission before a stranger logged out and ruined your night.
