With the always full plate A-list filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro constantly has in front of him, one project that may be easy to lose sight of his a flick he produced called DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK, a remake of John Newland’s 1973 TV flick of the same name. You remember the flick I speak of, right?

No worries if not. Like I said, with all the drama going down with THE HOBBIT, not to mention Del Toro’s recently announced (or to be) Van Helsing project, it’s hard to keep track of everything the dude has in the works. Anyway, here’s how DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK shapes up:

A young girl who’s sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend in the old mansion they are renovating, then discovers there are sinister creatures that live underneath the stairs.

Feature first-timer Troy Nixey directed the film, from a script by Del Toro and Matthew Robbins. Katie Holmes (below), Guy Pearce, Bailee Madison, Alan Dale, Julia Blake, Jack Thompson, Dylan Young Edwina Ritchard and Garry McDonald all star in the picture.

Now on to the real news. According to Heat Vision, Disney’s Miramax wing plans on releasing DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK on January 21, 2011. Perfect to ring in the new year, ay?
