Guillermo Del Toro’s remake of Terrified snags writer Sacha Gervasi

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

As if we needed any further proof that Guillermo del Toro was, in fact, the busiest man in Hollywood, today we have an update on the producer's upcoming remake of the 2017 Argentinian genre film TERRIFIED. Deadline has just reported that Fox Searchlight has set Sacha Gervasi to pen the screenplay for the upcoming remake. Demián Rugna, who wrote and directed the original, will helm.

Gervasi is a name you might know from some of his other screenwriting efforts such as Steven Spielberg's THE TERMINAL, or for his directing duties on films such as the Alfred Hitchcock biography film HITCHCOCK starring Anthony Hopkins, or the documentary ANVIL! THE STORY OF ANVIL.

Based on the Argentinian film ATERRADOS, this remake also begins when:

Strange events occur in a neighborhood in Buenos Aires, a doctor specializing in the paranormal, her colleague, and an ex-police officer investigate further. The results are horrifying and the evil must be stopped before it spreads.

Del Toro will produce this film, following his overall deal with Searchlight that we reported on last April. As mentioned above, Del Toro is one of the busiest guys in Hollywood right now with not only TERRIFIED on the way but also NIGHTMARE ALLEY, PINOCCHIO, and ANTLERS coming soon in one form or another in the near future. Up next for Del Toro is SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK, which he produced for director André Øvredal (THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE). That film stars Zoe Colletti and Lionsgate will be releasing it into a theater near you come August 9, 2019.

That's one badass poster right there.
