Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water has wrapped production

Back on August 15th, Guillermo del Toro's latest film THE SHAPE OF WATER began filming in Toronto. Yesterday, the director took to his Twitter account to announce the fact that production has officially wrapped. There is a new del Toro movie in existence as we speak, it just needs to go through post before it can make its way out into the world.

The verified synopsis for the film is very simple and mysterious:

An other-worldly story, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1963. A mysterious and magical journey from master storyteller Guillermo del Toro.

A RUMORED synopsis suggests that del Toro may be paying homage to THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON with this one:

Elisa, a mute janitor working at a lab where an amphibious man is being held captive. When Elisa falls in love with the creature, she devises a plan to help him escape with the assistance of her neighbor. The world outside of the lab, however, may prove to be more dangerous for the amphibious man than Elisa could have anticipated.

Whatever the film may or may not be about, we do know that it stars Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Octavia Spencer, Richard Jenkins, Doug Jones, and Michael Stuhlbarg.

THE SHAPE OF WATER is expected to reach theatres sometime in 2017.
