Guillermo is Afraid

Guillermo del Toro is teaming up with Miramax to produce a remake of the 1973 made-for-TV film DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK. Troy Nixey, a comic artist-writer who frequently collaborates with Mike Mignola (a frequent collaborator with del Toro), will make his directorial debut with the film. The original story followed a married couple who move into an inherited Victorian mansion. Once there they accidentally unleash demonish creatures who terrorize them during their stay. Del Toro’s vision is expected to instead focus on a young girl sent to live with her father and his girlfriend. Del Toro will take a hand in helping create some of the freaky creatures in the film and is writing the script along with Matthew Robbins (MIMIC). It is to note that the film is in the very early stages and could be in development for some time (especially with del Toro busy with all that HOBBITness). AFRAID would be the first horror film for the revamped Miramax, which has centered on more dramatic, Oscar-y fare.
