Gyllenhaal cracks Code

Donnie Darko himself Jake Gyllenhaal is in negotiations to star in Duncan Jones’ next film, SOURCE CODE, according to Variety. (Change that lame title, stat.) Jones is coming off a big year, having written and directed the critically lauded MOON.

SOURCE CODE centers on a soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown commuter and is forced to live and relive a harrowing train bombing until he can determine who is responsible for it.

Pretty trippy. The flick will be distributed by our beloved Summit Entertainment, which is still trying to figure out how to release a film not called TWILIGHT. Apparently, CODE was set up at Universal a couple years ago, with Topher Grace attached, but it obviously never took flight. (Or left the station, as it were.)

Perhaps the most interesting participant in all this is the screenwriter, Ben Ripley, mostly because two of his three produced screenplays are SPECIES III and SPECIES IV. Hey, god bless him! (I for one didn’t even realize there was a SPECIES IV.) Filming will begin in early 2010.
