Halloween Ends stabs its way to $5.4M in Thursday preview screenings

Halloween Ends Thursday previews, box office, Universal

The third film in David Gordon Green‘s Halloween trilogy, Halloween Ends, is treating itself to $5.4M at the box office during Thursday preview screenings. The final confrontation between Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney) opened in 3,200 markets, with showtimes starting at 5 p.m. The Thursday preview screening total for Halloween Ends is 11% more than Halloween Kills, which took home $4.85M in Thursday totals last year.

Analysts expect Halloween Ends to score $55M for its treat bucket during the film’s opening weekend across 3,901 venues. The film reportedly cost $30 million to produce, not accounting for promotional materials and campaigns. The final chapter in Green’s Halloween trilogy also went day-and-date with Peacock on the streamer’s paid subscriber tier. Theoretically, Halloween Ends will garner more subscribers for the service, which needs increased numbers.

Here’s the official synopsis for Halloween Ends:

Four years after the events of last year’s Halloween Kills, Laurie is living with her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) and is finishing writing her memoir. Michael Myers hasn’t been seen since. Laurie, after allowing the specter of Michael to determine and drive her reality for decades, has decided to liberate herself from fear and rage and embrace life. But when a young man, Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell; The Hardy Boys, Virgin River), is accused of killing a boy he was babysitting, it ignites a cascade of violence and terror that will force Laurie to finally confront the evil she can’t control, once and for all.

Are you excited about the release of Halloween Ends? Will you be watching the movie in theaters or on Peacock? Did you subscribe to the streaming service to watch Green’s Halloween movies? Many fans speculate this won’t be the last time we see Michael Myers on the silver screen, especially if the new film fills Universal‘s bucket with lots of cash.
