Your suffering will be legendary, even on HBO. Deadline has the scoop that David Gordon Green, director of 2018's HALLOWEEN and its upcoming sequels, is set to helm a TV series based upon Clive Barker's HELLRAISER. Colour me intrigued.

HBO has made a deal to develop the HELLRAISER franchise into a TV series, and they've tapped David Gordon Green to direct the pilot as well as several more episodes. While other horror franchises, such as FRIDAY THE 13TH and A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, have made the leap to the small-screen before in some fashion, this will be HELLRAISER's first time on TV, and I can't think of a better home than HBO. According to Deadline, the series will not be a remake, but rather an "elevated continuation and expansion of the well-established Hellraiser mythology" which assumes "the past mythology to be a given." The series is set to be written by Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Galactica) and Michael Dougherty (GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS), who will also serve as executive producers. It's expected that the centerpiece of the franchise will still be Pinhead, who is the leader of the Cenobites, a group of hellish demons who subject humans to extreme sadomasochistic experiments after they're called forth by a sinister puzzle box known as the Lament Configuration.

The Hellraiser TV series will be unrelated to the feature-film which is being developed by Spyglass Media. It was announced earlier this month that David Bruckner would be directing the feature-film reboot which will be scripted by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski from a story by David Goyer. Bruckner is best known for helming THE SIGNAL, THE RITUAL, and THE NIGHT HOUSE, as well as segments of V/H/S and SOUTHBOUND and episodes of Creepshow. There are few details regarding the feature-film remake, but Spyglass has described it as "loyal, yet evolved." With the film and the TV series in development, it looks like we might have more HELLRAISER than we know what to do with.
