Fans of author Neil Gaiman’s work will be happy to know that his next book, which hasn’t been published yet, already has a movie adaptation in the works – and with heavy-hitters like Tom Hanks and Oscar-nominated director Joe Wright at the helm.

Hitting shelves in June, Gaiman’s book is called THE OCEAN AT THE END OF THE LANE, which the author says is a novel about survival. Combining horror, fantasy and mystery elements, the story goes like this:

It began for our narrator forty years ago, when the family lodger stole their car and committed suicide in it, stirring up ancient powers best left undisturbed. Creatures from beyond the world are on the loose, and it will take everything our narrator has just to stay alive: there is primal horror here, and a menace unleashed — within his family, and from the forces that have gathered to destroy it. His only defense is three women, on a ramshackle farm at the end of the lane. .

Wright (ATONEMENT, HANNA) will direct the film, while Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman will produce. Focus Features will eventually distribute.

Hanks is also working on adapting Gaiman’s modern classic AMERICAN GODS for HBO. Obviously, he’s a fan.
