I woke up this morning with a sore throat, crabby kids, and had to deal with my insurance company regarding some water damage. What could possibly make the day any better? It is a holiday.

Happy Global Smurfs Day everyone!

THE SMURFS is one of the worst of the CGI/real world hybrid films. My kids love it along with the abominations known as GARFIELD and ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS. But, THE SMURFS is just plain awful. On the other hand, it did well at the box office, so the inevitable sequel had to be coming.

In my inbox today came the following image, courtesy of Sony Pictures Animation.

Here is the plot for THE SMURFS 2: Gargamel creates a couple of evil Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties to harness the magical Smurf essence. When he discovers that only a real Smurf can give him what he wants and that only Smurfette can turn the Naughties into real Smurfs, Gargamel kidnaps Smurfette and takes her to Paris. Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy, and Vanity must return to the human world and seek help from their friends Patrick and Grace Winslow in order to rescue Smurfette.

Sounds…adorable. THE SMURFS 2 will hit theaters August 2, 2013. Hank Azaria, Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Katy Perry, George Lopez, Sofia Vergara, and Anton Yelchin will all return along with Brendan Gleeson, Christina Ricci, and J.B. Smoove. Sony also quickly announced THE SMURFS 3 will hit theaters on July 24, 2015. That means the Mayans better be right about this December or we will all be subjected to two more of these movies.
