Has Rosa Salazar landed the lead role in Alita: Battle Angel?

Fans have been waiting for James Cameron to tackle his adaptation of Yukito Kishiro's "Battle Angel Alita" for quite some time, but since it looks as though he'll be sticking with Pandora for the foreseeable future, he handed directing duties over to Robert Rodriquez. Since then, development of ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL has been steadily progressing and according to the good folks over at Collider, they may have already found their star.

It was just last month when a shortlist for the role emerged claiming that Zendaya (SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING), Maika Monroe (IT FOLLOWS), Bella Thorne (AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING) and Rosa Salazar (MAZE RUNNER: THE SCORCH TRIALS) had all tested for the role. An announcement was expected within the weeks following that report and now Collider's sources tell them that it was Rosa Salazar who landed the role of Alita, the amnesiac cyborg who boasts some fairly impressive martial arts skills. Don't mark this down as a sure thing until we hear the official word, but this has the makings of a breakout role for Salazar who is probably best known for her roles in MAZE RUNNER: THE SCORCH TRIALS and THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT.

A synopsis for ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL:

Set in the 26th century, ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL tells the story of Alita, an amnesiac female cyborg who is rescued from a scrapyard by a doctor. The rebuilt Alita, remembering only her training in a deadly martial art, becomes a hunter-warrior, tracking down and eliminating vicious criminals. Within the context of an epic action-adventure, the film will explore a young woman’s journey of self-discovery and finding love.

What say you Battle Angel fans, is Rosa Salazar a good fit for the role?
