For quite some time there has been attempts to remake Michael Crichton's futuristic film, WESTWORLD, and now it looks like it's finally going to happen in the form of a TV series adaptation. Deadline reports, In one of the biggest commitments ever for HBO, the pay cable network has nabbed "Westworld", a drama series inspired by Michael Crichton’s 1973 sci-fi movie.

Written by Nolan and Lisa Joy ("Burn Notice"), "Westworld" is described as a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin. Nolan is set to direct the pilot, which he and Joy will executive produce with Abrams, Weintraub and Bryan Burk. Kathy Lingg is co-executive producing, while Athena Wickam serves as a producer. Warner Bros TV is producing with Bad Robot, Jerry Weintraub Prods. and Kilter Films.

This marks the second series inspired by WESTWORLD, which starred Yul Brynner, Richard Benjamin and James Brolin and introduced new digital visual techniques. The first, the short-lived 1980 drama "Beyond Westworld", was a continuation of both WESTWORLD and its movie sequel FUTUREWORLD.

A TV adaptation of WESTWORLD couldn't have landed at a better place. HBO has been turning out some solid stuff for years now and I can't wait to see how they tackle this one — it should be pretty damn fun! There's also plenty of talent involved from J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot to Jonathan Nolan I'd say that this one is already shaping up to be something worth keeping an eye on. We'll clue you guys in on more info on this one once we get it!
