Hear Meryl Streep and Anna Kendrick sing in this Into the Woods featurette

INTO THE WOODS is Disney’s big budget musical opening this Christmas and the type of tentpole film designed specifically for Oscar consideration. Like LES MISERABLES before it, INTO THE WOODS is based on a Broadway play that has had a long road to the big screen. With a huge cast of stars including Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Emily Blunt, and more, it was surprising that the first trailer didn’t showcase any of the singing. I mean, it is a musical, right?

A new featurette has been released for the film that includes our first snippets of some of the stars singing. Alas, there is no Johnny Depp (sorry, ladies) but we do get to see more footage of the various actors in the film as their fairy tale counterparts.

I am not a fan of director Rob Marshall and firmly believe that CHICAGO was one of the worst Best Picture winners of all time. Still, INTO THE WOODS looks visually impressive and you cannot argue with the caliber of this cast. This could be a top notch film or it could end up as another ROCK OF AGES. We will all find out when it hits theaters on December 25, 2014.
