Calling all Heather Langenkamp and Nancy Thompson fans, the documentary I AM NANCY will be screening opening night of the Big Bear Horro-Fi Film Festival.

The film is an autobiographical feature on actress Heather Langenkamp’s experience playing Nancy in the original Nightmare on Elm Street (1983), a role that has haunted her and made her a horror fan favorite. In the film, she comments on the Freddy Krueger marketing blitz, the rise of horror convention fandom and the phenomenon of the Nightmare franchise. “Why Freddymania and not Nancymania?” she playfully asks. Festival patrons will have the opportunity to put themselves in Nancy’s shoes and get a new and interesting perspective on the film that started it all.
I Am Nancy director Arlene Marechal will be present to introduce the film and discuss with fans.
“Heather and Arlene are friends of the Festival and have been so kind and supportive to us,” said Christopher Gaida, director of programming. “We’re very excited to show I Am Nancy as part of our opening night.”
“It’s a real thrill for us to be screening I AM NANCY at the Big Bear Horro-Fi Festival,” said Langenkamp, who also produced the film. “We hope to inspire the ‘Nanciness’ in everyone!
The festival is held in the mountains of Big Bear Lake, CA, and will run from September 30th to October 2nd. For more info on the event check out their official website.
