Hellboy: Web of Wyrd video game unveils a gameplay trailer

The 2019 Hellboy movie didn’t turn out the way anyway involved with it was hoping it would, but that hasn’t stopped Hellboy comic book creator Mike Mignola from teaming up with Crank co-director Brian Taylor to make another film called Hellboy: The Crooked Man. While we wait to get a look at that film, which stars Jack Kesy as Hellboy himself, Upstream Arcade and Good Shepherd Entertainment have unveiled a gameplay trailer for their upcoming video game Hellboy: Web of Wyrd – and you can watch it in the embed at the bottom of this article!

A release date for Hellboy: Web of Wyrd has not yet been announced.

The game is a roguelite action brawler with an original story created in partnership with Dark Horse Comics and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola. Like the comics, the game sends Hellboy on a series of vastly different and wholly unique adventures; and while those stories stand on their own, they are all tied to the mysterious legacy of The Butterfly House. Built in 1962 by occultist Pasquale Deneveaux, The Butterfly House is more than a mere residence; it’s a gateway. Its perverse angles and non-Euclidean geometries were designed with a singular foul purpose in mind: to open doorways into a terrible and fascinating dimension called The Wyrd. Twenty years later, an agent of the B.P.R.D. is sent on a reconnaissance mission to the mansion and promptly goes missing. It’s up to you—Hellboy—and your team of Bureau agents to find your missing colleague and uncover the secrets of The Butterfly House. During the investigation, you will explore wondrous and strange planes of existence contained within The Wyrd, each one home to powerful monsters, forgotten godforms, magnificent treasures, and powerful secrets. But be warned, because ancient evil stagnates within the furthest reaches of The Wyrd… evil that is eager to be let out.

Prolific character actor Lance Reddick provided the voice of Hellboy for Hellboy: Web of Wyrd. Sadly, Reddick passed away unexpectedly from heart disease at the age of 60 this past March. You can hear a sample of his Hellboy performance in the gameplay trailer.

Hellboy: Web of Wyrd will be available to play on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
