After what seems like years in development, a remake of BYE BYE BIRDIE may finally be getting off the ground. Sony Pictures has hired Adam Shankman (BEDTIME STORIES) to develop BIRDIE for the big screen. Shankman is no stranger to musicals with HAIRSPRAY already under his belt and a career as a choreographer before making it big as a director. Though many forget, due to the constant bastardized high school versions, the original was a huge success and launched the career of Ann-Margret (not to mention the original Broadway run, which featured Charles Nelson Reilly). Whether you care or not about a BYE BYE BIRDIE remake, just be glad Shankman is involved and they’ve tossed out that abhorrent idea to set the film in the modern day hip-hop/dance world. The sad news though is that apparently Tina Fey had been working on a BYE BYE BIRDIE script but that will be chucked as Shankman develops his own vision. This seems like it would have been the perfect movie for Lindsay Lohan in her heyday but alas that ship has sailed…
Hi Hi Birdie?
