Hidden in the Woods sequel: Patricio Valladares announces follow-up to 2012 film

Released in 2012, director Patricio Valladares’ Chilean survival thriller Hidden in the Woods (En las Afueras de la Ciudad) received an English-language remake starring Michael Biehn in 2014. Now, just in time for the tenth anniversary of the original film, Valladares has announced that he is writing and directing a sequel. Hidden in the Woods was about

two sisters who live in isolation in the Chilean countryside with a brother who was born with a physical deformity. They are subjected to the cruel and perverse whims of their father. After a clash with the police leaves a wake of death and mutilation, they flee and find refuge in a remote cabin. Meanwhile, a drug lord, convinced they have stolen the large stash of drugs their father had been hiding, sends a vicious gang of thugs to find them.

Variety confirms that the sequel will be a direct follow-up, set 10 years after the events of the first film. Hidden in the Woods 2 (that may not end up being the title, we’ll have to wait and see) is expected to go into production in Chile early next year.

Germany’s 8-Film has already picked up the German and U.S. rights to Hidden in the Woods 2 and plan to release it sometime in the second half of 2022. 8-Film is also co-producing the film with Reel Gore Releasing and Vallastudio Films. Steve Aquilina, Vittorio Farfan, and Valladares are the producers.

Aquilina, the CEO of 8-Film, had this to say about the project:

The original Hidden in the Woods immediately captivated me and I was very impressed by the intensity, the uncompromising nature and the severity of the movie. I couldn’t believe that a young director had made such a strong film and am very proud to be a part of the sequel.”

Valladares said,

I can’t wait to share this new horrifying chapter in the Hidden in the Woods saga with fans old and new all across the world.”

I haven’t seen Hidden in the Woods myself, but it is available to watch on Tubi. The English-language remake, which was also directed by Valladares, can be viewed on Amazon.
