The 2010 Cannes Film Festival line-up has been announced, and while there’s not a while lot for us horror hounds to get worked up about (at least as far as the official competitions are concerned), there’s one intriguing inclusion in the “Un Certain Regard” category. Hideo Nakata’s CHATROOM.

The RINGU director’s English-Language film stars Aaron Johnson (a.k.a. Kick-Ass), Imogen Poots (28 WEEKS LATER), Matthew Beard, Hannah Murray and Daniel Kaluuya. Pathé Productions snapped up the UK rights last year. It’s based on the play by acclaimed Irish playwright Enda Walsh, who also adapted the screenplay.

A bit of a change of pace for Nakata, Chatroom is a contemporary tale of disenchanted youths who meet online. What begins as harmless fun turns into a deadly game of cat and mouse that crosses over into the offline world. In other words, no ghosts or killer computers, which is most welcome.

No release dates have been announced yet, but expect that to change (hopefully) after the film’s premiere.
