Before you let your loincloth down and piss all over the idea of a History of the World sequel series making its way to Hulu, you might want to check out the stacked cast that Mel Brooks and his team are assembling. According to The Ankler, the eight-episode series is quickly becoming a who’s who comedy event for the ages.
Brooks is writing the History of the World sequel series in addition to executive producing alongside Nick Kroll, Ike Barinholtz, and Wanda Sykes. They also plan to star as various characters. The Ankler reports Malcolm Barrett, Jillian Bell, D’Arcy Carden, Rob Corddry, Robby Hoffman, Mitra Jouhari, Joe Mande, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Seth Rogen, JB Smoove, and David Wain have agreed to appear on the series. Additionally, Adam Sandler, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Ted Danson, Natasha Lyonne, Tim Robinson, Kumail Nanjiani, Keke Palmer, Michael Keaton, Johnny Knoxville, Taika Waititi, and Danny DeVito, plus folks like Hailee Steinfeld, Dove Cameron, Jacob Elordi, Charles Melton, Zazie Beetz, Idina Menzel, Pam Oliver, and Tara Lipinski are also considering roles.
History of the World Part 1 featured chapters from the Stone Age to Ancient Rome, the French Revolution, and the Spanish Inquisition. The Hulu series looks to cover new ground with biblical segments to Shakespearean times and beyond.
The Ankler reports that Jay Ellis could play Jesus Christ, with Timothy Simons starring as Abraham Lincoln. There’s also talk of Jack McBrayer playing Robert E. Lee. Other real-life figures expected to appear in the series include William Shakespear, Galileo Galilei, Grigori Rasputin, Leon Trotsky, Vladimir Lenin, and Joseph Stalin, which is the role Sandler was offered.
Negotiations remain ongoing for many of the actors listed above, so you may not see them all in Mel Brook’s History of the World sequel series. Be that as it may, even if they cast a portion of these people, the show will be fantastic. Who doesn’t want to work with the legendary Mel Brooks?
