Horror in the toilet!

Talk about some shitty news!

In a very bizarre – and innovative – move, the new novella from the “Japanese Stephen King” Koji Suzuki (pictured) will be printed on toilet paper in his native country. The nine-chapter tale, entitled – fittingly – DROP, will take up about three feet of a roll, which costs 210 yen (or $2.20).

While the plot of DROP is unknown, it does take place in a public restroom. Apparently, toilets in Japan are sources of superstition. There’s even a famous urban legend about a ghost called “Miss Hanako of the Toilet”, and according to the AP article where I got this news, parents would often tease children that a hairy hand might pull them down into the dark pool below. Um… thanks folks!

It remains to be seen if this will eventually be adapted for the big screen, but it wouldn’t be the first time for Suzuki. The author wrote THE RING, DARK WATER and DREAM CRUISE, which was made into a “Masters of Horror” episode.

THE RING’s Naomi Watts, and DARK WATER’s Jennifer Connelly
