Of all the images we've seen from ALIEN: COVENANT so far, my favorites are the ones with indications of bloodshed and those which feature characters toting firepower. Thanks to USA Today, we now have a new image from the film that mixes blood with firepower, one that shows heroine Katherine Waterston, blood running down her head, holding a rifle and preparing to fire upon whatever alien threat may appear in her sight.

USA Today also talked to Waterston about her character Daniels and how she compares to the ALIEN franchise's original heroine, Sigourney Weaver as Ripley:

You don't really know what you're made of until you're tested. (Ripley and Daniels) are both able to somehow think clearly in really shocking, unimaginable scenarios. It's fun to play someone who can thrive in that chaos."

Directed by Ridley Scott (pictured with Waterston above), ALIEN: COVENANT serves as both a prequel to Scott's ALIEN and a sequel to his film PROMETHEUS. Set twenty years before ALIEN and ten years after PROMETHEUS, COVENANT was written by Michael Green, Jack Paglen, and John Logan, and tells the following story:

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Waterston's co-stars include Danny McBride, Benjamin Rigby, Demian Bichir, Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Callie Hernandez, Billy Crudup, Noomi Rapace, James Franco, Guy Pearce, and Michael Fassbender (in a dual role as two different androids).

We'll get to see Waterston battle Xenomorphs on the big screen when ALIEN: COVENANT is released on May 19, 2017.
