Amazon’s The Dark Tower series still very much alive

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

I don't know about you but I'm excited as hell about the idea of Amazon Studios doing a proper adaptation of Stephen King's massive novel series THE DARK TOWER. The movie was a disappointment, to say the least (other than the cast) so I'm counting down the days until the reboot debuts on Amazon.

And speaking of which, today we have word via Deadline that the series is still "very much alive" over at the streaming arm of the internet giant. Yes, Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke recently spoke about her plans for the future and the current state of THE DARK TOWER TV SERIES.

Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke:

Those are scripts that I haven’t gotten yet. I’ll be seeing those, that material, in the coming weeks. None of those things are dead. They’re very much alive.

As you can see, Salke alludes to two projects in the quote above. And just to be thorough, the other project she's talking about is their planned big-budget adaptation of Robert Jordan's THE WHEEL OF TIME, which my younger brother is a big fan of but I know precisely ZERO about.

Anyhow, hopefully, this will be a step up from the recent big-screen adaptation starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey which followed:

Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), the last Gunslinger, is locked in an eternal battle with Walter O'Dim (Matthew McConaughey), also known as the Man in Black. The Gunslinger must prevent the Man in Black from toppling the Dark Tower, the key that holds the universe together. With the fate of worlds at stake, two men collide in the ultimate battle between good and evil.

Again, I'm looking forward to this upcoming adaptation, especially if they somehow manage to keep Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey onboard as Roland Deschain the Gunslinger and Walter O'Dim the Man in Black. The chances of this happening (at least in the long run) are slim, but hell, being positive can't hurt the returning cast's potential so that's the stance I'm taking. For now.
