Come play with us, America! Stanley Kubrick's classic Stephen King adaptation THE SHINING is returning to theaters this October, as if we didn't already have enough to do this year. Fathom Events is bringing the horror classic to screens nationwide on Sunday, October 23rd and Wednesday, October 26th at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM local time, with a screening that will include exclusive commentary by Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz.

I urge anybody who hasn't seen the film on the big screen to check it out. I recently saw it in a theater for the first time myself, and it's a mind-blowing experience, highlighting the film's elegant sound design to its full effect. For ticketing information, click here!

Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) becomes winter caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado, hoping to cure his writer's block. He settles in along with his wife, Wendy (Shelley Duvall), and his son, Danny (Danny Lloyd), who is plagued by psychic premonitions. As Jack's writing goes nowhere and Danny's visions become more disturbing, Jack discovers the hotel's dark secrets and begins to unravel into a homicidal maniac hell-bent on terrorizing his family.

THE SHINING was originally released on May 23rd, 1980.
