Conan the Barbarian series being developed by Amazon

While it seems quite unlikely we'll get to experience THE LEGEND OF CONAN - the long-anticipated sequel to CONAN THE DESTROYER that would have featured Arnold Schwarzenegger returning to one of his most iconic roles - on the big screen anytime soon, it does look like we'll be seeing Conan reign supreme elsewhere. Deadline is reporting Amazon is preparing a Conan series that harkens back to the character's literary roots.

Based on the character created by Robert E. Howard, Conan has the following (brief) synopsis:

Driven out of his tribal homelands, Conan wanders the mysterious and treacherous world of civilization where he searches for purpose in a place that rejects him as a mindless savage.

Ryan Condal, who co-wrote the HERCULES movie starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, is being credited as the creator and writer of the project. Miguel Sapochnik, whose TV credits include six episodes of Game of Thrones, Iron Fist and True Detective, will be directing. Evidently the two bonded over their shared love of the Conan character, and they intend to produce a series that is faithful to the spirit of the character created by Howard.

Now the question is, who do they get to play Conan the Cimmerian? Most recently, Jason Momoa tackled the character in Marcus Nispel's critical and commercial flop CONAN THE BARBARIAN. Going to guess he's not in the running for this updated take on the brute.
