Details on the Wachowski’s Netflix series Sense8 begin to emerge

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It's been quite some time since we've heard anything on the upcoming Netflix Original Series "Sense8", from THE MATRIX and JUPITER ASCENDING duo Andy and Lana Wachowski, with our last report on it coming way back in March of last year when the series was first announced. Like many folks, we were intrigued by the idea of the Wachowski's bringing their unique vision to a new series for Netflix but details we're scarce and we weren't sure what to expect from the creative minds of the duo responsible for THE MATRIX series. Now TVLine has given us our first details and, I gotta admit, it sounds like it could be a lotta fun!

TVLine reports that "Sense8" will center around…

…eight people linked together by a violent vision. Meanwhile, one mysterious figure is trying to bring the group together in order to kill them.

On a more thematic level, the Wachowskis have previously said they were inspired to create the show by “a late night conversation about the ways technology simultaneously unites and divides us.

The main characters include:

…a closeted Mexican telenovela hunk, an Icelandic party girl, a German safe-cracker, a Korean businesswoman, an African bus driver and a transgender American blogger (a la Lana?). Perhaps most intriguing, though, are Jonas, an apparently magic African-American who appears to all of the “visionaries,” and his evil counterpart, Mr. Whispers (arguably the best-named villain since The X-Files’ Cigarette-Smoking Man).

None of the characters have been cast yet, but the Wachowskis have some time as production doesn’t begin until June.

Each episode — shot in the UK, Seoul, Mumbai, Nairobi, Berlin, Mexico City, San Francisco and Chicago — will follow the characters’ separate stories, even as one entity tries to bring the octet together and another tries to kill them.

"Sense8" is being produced by Georgeville Television, in association with Studio JMS. Georgeville Television is a Reliance Entertainment company and independent television studio, formed by veteran film and television producer Marc Rosen, in partnership by Motion Picture Capital's Leon Clarance and Producer Deepak Nayar.
