Howard the Duck Collector’s Edition Blu-ray Coming This April

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

I'm not really sure if we should be covering HOWARD THE DUCK (pre-order HERE) here on AITH, but considering the movie gave me loads of nightmares as a kid, my votes lean towards "fair enough." And speaking of the strange-ass motion picture, today we have word that the movie is heading our way on Collector's Edition Blu-ray this April. It's a pretty epic package so if you're a fan I suggest giving it a look-see below.

George Lucas was the executive producer of this movie and the script was originally intended to be an animated film. It became live-action because of a "contractual obligation." Huh. Needless to say, HOWARD THE DUCK was a critical and commercial failure when it was released in August 1986. And in the years since is considered one of the worst films of all time. Ouch. I kinda like the movie if I remember it correctly from childhood.

Special features include a limited edition booklet which features 'How 'The Duck Who Couldn't Swim' Survived a Sinking Ship' by Lister Appleton and 'The Madness of King George' by Charlie Brigden. You can check out the cover art and the full list of special features below. After that, make sure to hit us up and let us know if you plan to snag a copy of HOWARD THE DUCK on Collector's Edition Blu-ray when it lands this April.

For those that might be unaware, the synopsis for the film goes a little something like this:

In this film based on the comic book character, Howard the Duck is suddenly beamed from Duckworld, a planet of intelligent ducks with arms and legs, to Earth, where he lands in Cleveland. There he saves rocker Beverly (Lea Thompson) from thugs and forms a friendship with her. She introduces him to Phil (Tim Robbins), who works at a lab with scientist Dr. Jenning (Jeffrey Jones). When the doctor attempts to return Howard to his world, Jenning instead transfers an evil spirit into his own body.

HOWARD THE DUCK was directed by Willard Huyck (BEST DEFENCE) from a screenplay he co-wrote along with producer Gloria Katz (INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM) based on the Marvel character Howard the Duck created by Steve Gerber. This movie starred Lea Thompson (BACK TO THE FUTURE, JAWS 3-D), Jeffrey Jones (BEETLEJUICE, SLEEPY HOLLOW), and Tim Robbins (THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION).

The movie will be released on Collector's Edition Blu-ray on April 22nd.
