IFC Films picks up Ben Wheatley’s Sightseers for US distribution

I’m still not sure what to make of SIGHTSEERS, the new flick from director Ben Wheatley (KILL LIST). It’s listed as a thriller in some places, others call it a “dark comedy” but nothing we’ve seen from the flick so far matches either of the genres. Oh well, at least now you’ll be able to find out for yourself, as IFC Films has bought the North American rights to the movie for an as yet unspecified release date.

Chris (Oram) wants to show Tina (Lowe) his world and he wants to do it his way – on a journey through the British Isles in his beloved Abbey Oxford Caravan. Tina’s led a sheltered life and there are things that Chris needs her to see – the Crich Tramway Museum, the Ribblehead Viaduct, the Keswick Pencil Museum and the rolling countryside that separates these wonders in his life. But it doesn’t take long for the dream to fade. Litterbugs, noisy teenagers and pre-booked caravan sites, not to mention Tina’s meddling mother, soon conspire to shatter Chris’s dreams and send him, and anyone who rubs him the wrong way, over a very jagged edge.

SIGHTSEERS, starring Steve Oram and Alice Lowe, is currently screening at the Cannes Film Festival.

Yet another sight to see as we await the flick’s release date.
